News in the newspaper about the Sevinç Köseoğlu Ulubatlı Solo Ceramics exhibition; SILENT

“If the Creator created the universe from silence, creativity is creating silences from sounds.” (Can Yücel)

Silence is sometimes respect, sometimes serenity, peace… Sometimes it is a feeling of inadequacy and guilt… Sometimes it is accepting both the good and the bad… Sometimes it opens the door to eternity, sometimes it can be death. It is the cause of monotony and boredom, and the source of the storm and noise that will break out later. Everything happens silently; while the world turns without us realizing it, the silence of the night prepares the ground for the lively light of the day. Trees grow silently, flowers bloom silently. In the depths of the ocean, a shark silently approaches its prey. There is also ‘silence’ in the patterns our emotions enter, in the perception of our minds, in the possibility of illusion or delusion, and in the shaping of our inner world.

The fetus, which takes shape silently in the womb without having the chance to choose its gender, is accustomed to noise if it is a male and to silence if it is a female after birth. While women start to be perceived as sexual objects in childhood, men are still being toilet trained at that age. While it is left to the man to decide who to choose in marriages, women remain silent because “children cannot be asked”. While it is not important for women to be children; it is enough for men to have sexual power, regardless of their age.

While all living beings are equal in the justice of nature, it is silently revealed that the justice of people who remain silent is written by men. When Osho says, “Man becomes silent not because there is no one to listen, but because there is no one to understand”, he summarizes the silence of all child brides. You are silent.

The source of inspiration for the message in my introduction was an exhibition opened by dear ‘Sevinç Köseoğlu Ulubatlı’, an assistant professor at the Fine Arts University and a ceramic artist, at the ‘Tosca Art Gallery’ in Farabi. The things that were reflected in my writing were the impressions I got when I visited her exhibition consisting of ceramic installations and forms that she prepared to draw attention to the reality of ‘Child brides’, which is still our social wound, and to activate social awareness. In our short chat with dear Professor Sevinç, the words “We should be aware that the wrongs that we ignore and remain silent about, settle into our lives as right after a while” are an undeniable truth. Since the language of art is also ‘silence’, Sevinç Köseoğlu Ulubatlı invites you to the polyphony, awareness and sensitivity born from silence, while her most beautiful work tightly embraces her beloved daughter ‘Asya’.
